The S&N Wanderlust Collection | Photographs from Northern Italy & the American West, Ready to Hang in Your Home
Dreamy blue Italian seas meet wide open western skies in our latest Scout & Nimble art collection. The exclusive collection features 16 unique prints rich in color and history, captured with a unique perspective by photographer, Ann Millington.
From the colorful shores of Castelsardo to the golden hues of the American west, each print has been carefully curated by our design team and is available as either an archival print or framed piece, ready to be hung in your home. We sat down with Ann to dive deeper into the stories behind the work and her experience as a landscape photographer.
Q&A with Photographer Ann Millington
Tell us a little bit about yourself and you got started with photography.
I’m a traveling editorial, engagement, and wedding photographer. I’m currently based in KC, but feel most at home exploring new places and capturing the adventure with a couple of cameras. I’ve been taking photos since I was little. Always asking for another camera for every birthday and documenting the stories of nature, friends, and family. I love to take images that capture memories and feelings we want to hold on to forever.
A large portion of the work in this collection was shot in Northern Italy and the island of Sardinia. Can you tell us about your time in Italy and your experience shooting there?
I had always wanted to spend time in Europe, so I finally sought out the opportunity and committed. It did not disappoint. I stayed with an incredible family near Bologna. We later traveled to Sardinia for a month. Italy has a beautiful culture they are very proud of, and they love to share it with others.
The rest of the work was captured during your time traveling throughout the American West. Tell us about your experience shooting in this part of the country.
I’ve done a lot of road tripping out west from Missouri. I think it’s uniquely American to hop in a car and drive for days across so much beautiful, varying landscape all within the same country. There is something really special to watch the landscape change before your eyes. Our public lands are a gift.
The images in the wanderlust collection seem to capture the spirit of traveling. Do you have any insight on how your experiences abroad and out west are reflected in the work?
I’ve done a lot of solo traveling. Traveling alone leads to a more inquisitive eye; there is a lot more space for your mind to wander. A lot more romanticism in it, too. A quote that has always stood out to me says, “sunsets seem to burn brighter when you’re alone." I think that applies to my state of mind while taking quite a few photos as well.
Your work is a mix of film and digital. What do you see as the advantages of each mediums?
Film is special because it’s a bit more unassuming. People look at a film camera with curiosity. A digital camera instantly delivers, but you really tuck away special memories on film that you can forget you captured. When I received my film back from Italy, it felt like Christmas morning looking through forgotten moments from the beginning of the trip.
Do you capture other subjects besides travel photography?
Yes! Travel and landscape photos are only a portion of what I love to photograph. I photograph weddings, editorial work, and whatever catches my eye. I am always up for creative collaborations as well.
