Modern Tudor | Black & White Kitchen
This is a local client project that we took on last year for the sweetest family. They bought an early-20th-century English Tudor home that had been vacant for several years, and it was in need of some love and attention. They fell in love with the home and wanted to restore and preserve some of the original details while adding on a significant amount of square footage.
My main goal with any addition is to make the transition as seamless as possible. It should be difficult for guests to really know where the old ends and the new begins. Our clients loved some of the original details of the home, but style-wise were inspired more by modern and contemporary spaces. It therefore became our goal to infuse modern touches to this traditional home while carrying through some of the same architectural details from the existing home into the new addition. Today we are sharing images of the gorgeous black and white kitchen.
Their kitchen is my favorite part of their home. It feels modern and fresh, but still cozy and inviting. The tiered crystal chandeliers are stunning, and the because they are actually lucite, they are super affordable.
And those windows in their kitchen! We fell in love with them and the unbelievable view. The perimeter counter is a beautiful soapstone…just stunning.
Organic white caesarstone went on top of a crisp black island. To prevent the space from feeling too busy, we selected a 2×12 white tile for the backsplash done in a herringbone pattern with white grout.
You can see the old exterior brick of the home. My clients loved the look & feel of the exterior brick that they decided they didn’t want to cover it up and decided to keep it exposed.
The brick wall continues from the floor to what used to be the roofline. The attic space was opened up and converted to a 3rd floor playroom and a doorway was added to connect the old and new portions of the house on the 2nd floor. For impact we had the trim around the windows and stairway railing painted in the same black that was on their kitchen island and new built ins located the sitting room off the kitchen, which you can see above.
