Maplewood Eclectic | Part II Reveal

When our clients purchased this home, they knew that it was going to take a lot of clever remodeling to turn it into their dream home. We were fortunate enough to help them bring that dream to life – with amazing results!

Maplewood Home Reveal: The Transformation

Hallway & Bathroom

Every room got a complete overhaul to suit its new owners’ personalities and lifestyle. Their mix of eclectic modern with a dash of traditional warmth is evident throughout, making it a fun and livable home.

We are always astounded at the transformative power of paint, and this little section proves that. We painted the trim in the same gray that we used in the kitchen and kept the walls in a fresh white. Benjamin Moore Northern Cliffs 1536 is a beautiful classic gray that adds definition without being overpowering in this narrow space. And look how well the trim around the door, frames the striking buffalo check shower curtain!

This custom-made shower curtain gives a traditional pattern an update by using it in an unexpected way. Paired with herringbone mosaic tiles inside the shower, this bathroom is the feature at the end of the hall.

Master Bathroom

The most significant transformation in this room was the flooring. Our clients really allowed us to push the envelope here! The rich cobalt penny floor tiles look fantastic and are the perfect color pop for this room. And while we were given some design-leeway, we decided to combine a variety of styles. White subway tiles add a retro touch to the shower, contrasting with the classic marble countertops.

All of these modern materials needed something to tie them together, something to add warmth. The custom-designed vanity unit with its warm wood finish creates a beautiful and practical grounding piece in this bathroom. And to bring in that eclectic touch that we have throughout the house, we used a variety of metal finishes: black sconces, a gold Oryx Mirror, chrome faucets and dark metal hardware. As with the rest of the home, the old mirrored doors in this room were also replaced with new 5-panel doors.

Guest Bedroom

Our clients wanted a fun place for their guests with simple and clean lines. The first thing you see as you walk into the room is the Casey Bed. It’s a great modern spin on a traditional metal bed, with slim geometric lines and a warm charcoal finish. The design has an art deco touch without being overly fussy, making it the perfect statement piece for this bedroom.  The Laurel Table Lamp with its fun dome-shape further hints at the era and helps to add softness to the room. The minimalist design of the Suki Nightstand was the perfect choice to complement the rest of the pieces in this room, its brass hardware adding a touch of glam.

Dining Room

This room had a few exciting challenges: it doubles as a laundry room, and we had to find a way to seamlessly include the beautiful heirloom dining table and chairs from our client’s grandmother.  We started by installing new 5-panel doors to hide the laundry area. These doors complement the details in the rest of the house and offer great sound insulation as well. Finished in the same green-gray, they add just enough architectural interest without detracting from the hero in the room: the fantastic sculptural Jaxon Chandelier above the dining table.

This light fitting, with its modern lines and bold design, is the perfect way to stop the room from becoming too traditional. It’s a piece of art in its own right, and with that in the room, you really don’t need much else! The Hexagon Frontier Mirror complements the angular lines of the chandelier and bounces light around the room. The rough wooden finish adds texture, contrasting with the smooth dining table. For some warmth and a pop of color, the Nomad Rug picks up the colors from the wood and the adjacent kitchen, tying the two rooms together.  This rug is one of our best-sellers and for a good reason: it not only looks great, but it is also a champion at hiding dirt and stains, making it perfect for a family with kids or pets.

Living Room

This room fully embraces this couple’s modern/traditional style. It’s a room that celebrates them, and they wanted to display artwork and pictures of their life. The furniture is an eclectic mix of items, that happily combines traditional and modern elements. A classic Chesterfield Club Sofa sits next to a Larkin Leather Sofa, with a cool and casual Ace Oak and Linen Chair. To complete the picture, they needed a versatile piece that could function as a coffee table as well as additional seating. As the proud owners of two dogs – one being a Great Dane – a traditional coffee table was out of the question. The Isle Ottoman proved to be the perfect solution. It combines classic diamond-tufted upholstery with a sleek iron base and is both comfortable and practical.

The gallery wall was the ideal way to display a collection of their favorite photos and artwork. The collection of smaller frames is balanced by the single large painting on the adjacent wall.
